GARNET/GLASS BLEND
Both Garnet and Crushed Glass blasting media are known for their durability and environmental friendliness. Neither of them produces as much dust as coal or silica sand. Crushed Glass tends to be somewhat less expensive as it is made from recycled materials, but it is not quite as hard as garnet. Both media have a sharp, angular surface that is perfect for surface prep and cleaning/deburring. They are good options for concrete, aluminum, fiberglass, and metal substrates which need to be prepared for thick outer coatings.
A garnet/crushed glass mix abrasive combines the aggressive cutting power of garnet, with the gentler cleaning action of crushed glass, making it suitable for situations where you need to remove heavy coatings while still achieving a relatively smooth surface finish. This mix is often used in applications where moderate surface preparation is required while minimizing potential damage to the substrate, particularly on delicate materials like aluminum, fiberglass, and other metals.
Custom Performance Blends can have very good results both in process and financially. The process benefits by having a harder abrasive do the bulk of the removal, while the slightly softer abrasive does the cleanup and deburring. The result is a clean substrate without heavy pitting that is ready for coating. The financial reward is using a less costly abrasive mixed with a more expensive abrasive to achieve a better overall price with great results.
